The Specialty of Family Practice Medicine – Caring for Families of All Ages
As defined by the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), a family physician has been educated and trained to provide continuing and comprehensive medical care, health maintenance and preventive services to all members of the family regardless of sex, age and type of problems.
The ten MHCS physicians are educated in the specialty of family practice. Their residency training provided integrated inpatient and outpatient learning over a period of three years and included extensive in-hospital training in the care of adults and children, maternity care, emergency and critical care, and other inpatient situations.
Family practice physicians provide services to all ages within the clinic, hospital, emergency room, and nursing home settings. Sometimes referred to as "primary care" physicians, they provide both the first contact for a person with an undiagnosed health concern and continuing care of varied medical conditions, not limited by cause, organ system or diagnosis.
