Vaccination Abbreviations Defined:

DTaP - Diptheria, Tetanus, Pertussis
Hep B - Hepatitis B
HIB - Haemophilus Influenzae Type B
MMR - Mumps, Measles, Rubella
Varicella - Chicken Pox
IPV - Polio
Prevnar - Pneumonia

What is What?
When possible, combination vaccines are used. These are individual vaccines that are combined together so that the patient does not have to get as many injections. For example, there is one injection that contains a combination of vaccines for diptheria, tetanus, pertussis, hepatitis B and polio (Pediarix).

What Should I Bring to My Child's Appointment?

  1. Physical Forms - Please have them filled out
  2. Immunization records for your child
  3. Your child's health history

What Should I Tell My Child About the Visit?

  1. Who they are going to be seeing
  2. What the physical will be like
  3. Inform the child that they will have a finger stick (hemoglobin)
  4. Tell the child that they will probably receive shots

Optional Vaccines

Hepatitis A - age 1 & over (2)
Gardasil (HPV) - age 9-26 (3)
Meningoccal - age 11 & over (1)

Immunizations are Important!

Getting your child immunized can protect their friends, schoolmates, and others who are not able to receive certain vaccines.

Immunizations could ultimately help rid the world of diseases that have been crippling and killing children for centuries. If enough parents fail to get their children immunized, diseases that had been under control can come back to cause epidemics.
